

Born May 22, 1942, in Grindstone, Pennsylvania, Mike is survived by his wife, Kathleen Capozzoli Matty; daughters Lisa Kristine Matty of Winter Springs, Florida, and Diana Matty Purutcuoglu (Bora) of Longwood, Florida; sisters Joanne Koynock (Joseph) and Kathleen Childs (Bruce), both of Mentor, Ohio; grandchildren Evan Paul Purutcuoglu and Laine Daphne Purutcuoglu; and beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Paul Peter Matty and Catherine Hroblak Matty Grago, sister Nancy Lee McGuire, and brothers Timothy T. Matty and Bernard Greg Matty.
Mike graduated in 1960 from John A. Brashear High School in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, where he earned accolades in football and baseball. He married Kathy, his high school sweetheart, in 1963, and started a family in Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked as a machinist for Lincoln Electric and continued his love for sports as “the one to beat” at Mentor Heisley Racquet Club.
After vacationing in Florida, Mike relocated his family to Central Florida in the 1980s, launching a successful career in real estate. Prior to retiring in 2000, Mike worked for Morrison Homes as division manager at the Country Club of Mount Dora, where he was able to live out his passion for golf and tennis.
As devoted husband to his wife of 62 years, Mike loved mountain vacations, visiting national parks and traveling with his family. He enjoyed hunting with his father and brothers and was an avid automobile enthusiast, having purchased 66 new vehicles over his lifetime.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a viewing at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel in Sanford, Florida, on Sunday, January 4, from 5 to 8 pm. On Monday, January 5, a viewing will be held at 1 pm and funeral service at 2 pm in the Oaklawn Chapel, followed by the interment at Oaklawn Cemetery. Following the graveside service, all are invited to return to the chapel for a reception.
