Sable earned his BFA and Master of Architecture degrees from the Savannah College of Art & Design. As a faculty member, he mentored hundreds of students at the Art Institute of Miami and at Seminole State College, inspiring them with his creativity and authenticity. He also produced his own architectural and interior design work, and art that has been exhibited widely, including at Art Basel. Sable and his longtime partner Joel enjoyed traveling the world—especially by boat, fine dining, and making the absolute most of their Disney annual passes.
Sable was born James Aaron Stroud on April 21, 1977. Sable is survived by his partner of 19 years, Joel Trinidad Mattlé, and the Trinidad-Mattlé family; by Larry and Jane Stroud and Jeanette Dossi; and by his sister Jenn Stroud Rossmann and her family. Sable was cherished and will be deeply missed. As one friend put it, without him “the world is less fabulous, less sparkly, less sublime.”
Remembrances can be shared online and at services to be held in August.
