

V. Kelly Smith, age 88, passed away April 12th, 2016 at his home in New Smyrna Beach. Born Thursday, February 2nd, 1928, to Gladys A. and Virgil L. Smith, in the family home at 1807 French Avenue in Sanford. Growing up in Sanford, Kelly and his late brother Charles attended Sanford schools, graduating from Seminole High before serving as a Corporal in the U S Army, 443rd Ammunition Co. in Austria. During his teenage years Kelly worked at the Ritz Theater, among other jobs, and later attended Stetson University. He sold Insurance for Life of Georgia, worked as a Land Surveyor for the FDOT and attained his Florida Professional Land Surveyor license. In the 1960's, partnering with Al Doudney, he was Deputy County Surveyor for Seminole County. In time he and his family established his land surveying business, V. Kelly Smith and Associates. As a founding member of the Central Florida Zoological Society he donated his professional land surveying services. Other landmarks he surveyed were the Sanford Memorial Stadium, Sanford Marina, Central Florida Hospital, South Seminole Hospital and many other landmarks throughout Central Florida. In 1950 he married the late Virginia Reeves. Kelly married June Lodge in 1958 raising their family in the home he designed and built. After working as a Professional Land Surveyor for over 40 years in Central Florida, they retired to New Smyrna Beach; where they enjoyed sailing, fishing, Celery Fed reunions and holiday celebrations with their 5 children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, June L. Smith, daughters, Patricia L. (Patti) Smith, Sylvia L. Smith, (Judith) Lynne Smith, Allyson Smith Hubbard; son, Shannon Kelly Smith, 5 grandsons; Chad Hubbard, Justin Hubbard, Joey Hubbard, Preston Kelly Smith, Kaden Smith; granddaughter Kelly F. Lindsey and her husband Richard C. Lindsey and great-granddaughters, Leah Marie Lindsey and Aubrie June Hubbard. The family has planned a visitation at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel in Sanford, FL for Sunday, April 17th from 10 to 11am with graveside service at Oaklawn Park Cemetery from 11 am to 12 pm.
