We are grieved by the passing of Pastor Eriksen. Our condolences and love go out to Pat, Laura, Debra, and your families. Pastor Eriksen was a special man to us because he discipled us and we were blessed to have him officiated our wedding.  We appreciated his impactful teaching and his heart for the lost.  He also holds a special place in the history of Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Rochester, Minnesota  for his leadership that guided Calvary from a small church in southeast Rochester to a new location in northwest Rochester. He had a vision for Calvary to grow and expand its outreach and impact in Rochester. With God's blessing that vision has been realized. We are grateful for his ministry to us and Calvary, and we celebrate his memory.

We were so saddened to hear of Walter's passing and we grieve for the entire family.  He and his dear wife Pat have been dear friends of ours for almost sixty years as we met during seminary days and continued our friendship through all these years. Our visits and phone conversations always resulted in lots of fun and laughter as well as mutual encouragement.  
While we grieve, we do not do so as do those who have no hope (1 Thess 4:13).  We're grateful to our Lord Jesus that He has provided the hope of eternal life for those who trust in His saving grace. 
We are so grateful that Walter was a part of our lives.

Pastor Walter played a significant role in launching my spiritual life.  I was 19 and wrestling with the God over the direction and control of my life.  The Lord took me to a crisis point and I was hungry for answers.  I went to a Sunday evening service and Pastor Walter's sermon hit me right between the eyes; I could sense faith being born.  I went to talk to him after the service and he helped my solidify the decision to follow Christ.  A few days later he helped me walk through a significant challenge and temptation in my life.  A short time after that Pastor Walter baptized me.  The day of that sermon was the turning point of my life and I am so thankful that the Lord led me to Walter on that day. 
Many years later I reconnected with Walter and continued to be encouraged by him.

What a shock to hear of Walter’s death.  He was my deacon.  Sometimes there are no words for a loss so great. I’m praying for comfort and strength for you and your family at this difficult time.  My heart goes out to you.

I’ll miss Walter very much.  I miss those Thursdays we would meet at Panera in lake Nona and have Bible Study.  We had such a great time learning the Bible and talking about our life’s .  He always got a chuckle when reading the Bible I couldn’t pronounce a word that may have been foreign to me .  I was never a great reader but after 12 years studying one on one with Walter he opened my mind and eyes as to how much God loved me and how much he worked in my life.   Walter was my best friend and a great listener and a great teacher.   I miss him very much, and will always value his friendship.  I know God has a sense of humor by putting Walter and i together for such a long time.  We’d laugh so hard at times we would be crying… Walter.  I know you’re looking down on me.  I’m not perfect but I love Jesus so much because of you.  Thank you for being my best friend and teacher.

Walter was a Man of God and mentor to many including me (Tim Ruopsa). He was special to Barb and I as someone who could communicate easily and he always saw the big picture.  Walt encouraged others to work out the details of that picture. Our family and our daughter Sara has fond memories of him during the graveside service for our Amy and the wedding Walt conducted for her and Mel.

Susan and I are sad to hear this news.  I have many fond memories of Pastor Eriksen from his time in Rochester.   He could relate to people so well, and make everyone feel like they were old friends.  When I was in high school, he sat at the "youth group" picnic table at a church picnic and talked about cars, mainly his love for Oldsmobiles.   When was the speaker at our church camp during the "Family Camp" week, my brother and I got to go fishing with him, we were heading out and he asked if he could join us.  Great memories, I feel fortunate to have known him.
