Bernardino Martinez Vargas, 97, of Santa Ana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. He was a devoted husband, loving father and forever friend. His wife, Nelly T. Vargas, preceded him in death and is survived by three daughters, Marisol Vargas-Pineda, Margarita Klase, Susan Zavala, a step-son Alex Garcia, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He had an extraordinary life as he made his way north from Guanajuato, Mexico at the age of 20. He settled in Santa Ana and worked in construction, perfecting his craft and becoming "el Maestro", teaching others. In his retirement, he loved to tinker in his garage and "fix" things. He enjoyed walks around the neighborhood talking to neighbors, always offering to help and fix anything in any way he could. He also worked in his garden, planting, trimming trees and picking the fruit off the trees happy to share with neighbors and visitors. He loved to watch the Dodger and Angel baseball games but most of all he loved his friends and family members that visited, joking, telling stories, ribbing each other and just laughing and talking and reminiscing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends for he is forever etched in our hearts.
". . .In God's mercy he is in safe lodging, holy rest and peace at last. . ."
