Carol Jean Fortuna

Carol Jean Fortuna, age 82, passed away peacefully November 24, 2022 with her loving daughter Rhonda and son-in-law Jose Sicilia by her side. She was born November 12, 1940 in Muskegon, Michigan to Carl and Mildred Fischer. She married Valentine "Val" James Fortuna and moved to California to escape the cold winters, and found a wonderful home and life in Costa Mesa. Val proceeded her in death in 1988.

Carol was a devoted daughter, wife and mother. She took care of both her mother and husband until they passed from this life. She chose to be a stay-at-home mom to her two children Rhonda and Roderick "Rod". She valued their educations, volunteering at their elementary school. She encouraged them to do well at school and in life. She was nicknamed "Grandma" and "Mom" by many of her children's friends because of the love they had for her and she for them. She was a great lover of dogs having many in her life that she spoiled beautifully.

She loved gardening and flowers. One of her biggest passions was tennis. She knew all the players, who was doing well and who wasn't. A big highlight was going to England and touring Wimbledon Stadium and seeing her favorite Roger Federer play and beat David Ferrer at the O2 Arena in London in 2012.

Carol is survived by her daughter Rhonda, son-in-law Jose Sicilia, son Rod Fortuna, and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly and touched deeply. She is remembered by her family, friends and wonderful neighbors, and caregivers as caring, intelligent, giving, tough, funny, a bit of a trickster, and most of all loving. Please join us celebrating her life Saturday, Dec 10th at 11:00 am at Fairhaven Memorial Park, 1701 East Fairhaven Avenue in Santa Ana, CA. Reception to follow at Rhonda and Jose's home at 428 7th Street, Huntington Beach from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
