
Charles H. Phillips, Jr. was born November 15, 1931 in Santa Ana to Charles & Gertrude (Burgess) Phillips He was their 3rd of 4 children. He attended Santa Ana schools and then began his long career in wood-working. He married Colleen Park on November 11, 1955, whom he met at his Aunt Ella's home on Oak Street. They were married for 65yrs, living in Santa Ana the entire time. They have 4 children, Melanie (Speck), Michelle (Sims), Wendy (Phillips), and Chuck (Charles, III), 12 grand-children, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Charles was a carpenter extraodinaire. He began his career building custom cabinets, then yacht building in Newport Beach. He was very proud of building the wooden mold used to create the fiberglass body of a motor-sailer yacht. He then spent 40 years working for himself remodeling/building custom homes mostly between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. His final build was for Sonny Bryant in Orange Park Acres. He completed this home when he was 74 yrs old.
As a member of the Church of the Nazarene, he was a bus driver for many years, picking up children for Sunday School. He also spent many hours volunteering his time to maintain and repair the churches he attended.
Charles went to be with our Lord on January 21, 2021. He is preceeded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law (Lucille Park) and his sister (Mary Couch). He is survived by his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his sisters (Helen Duhammel) and (Barbara Byerly). Charles was the patriarch of his family and will be extremely missed.
