Darrell Lynn Hawthorne

Darrell Lynn Hawthorne, age 66 passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. Darrell was born February 19, 1959 to Ophelia Hawthorne and raised by his stepfather Shirley Jones. Darrell arrived with his family to San Diego at an early age of 4 years old, where he grew up and attended Point Loma High School. Darrell had many friends along the way. Later, Darrell married had two children Geri and Darrell who both continue to live their lives in San Diego today. Darrell, attended church and was an active member of Bayview Baptist Church where he was apart of the musical keyboard and sounds ministry. Darrell worked diligently for a mail company for over 20 years, he had many side jobs working with computers which he loved to do. His last job was in security for a company in San Diego and he never missed a day of work.

After dating the woman who touched his heart for 10 years, Darrell decided to marry again on October 15, 2023 where he and Sabrina moved to Las Vegas Nevada and created a beautiful life and home together. He then retired but always expressed that he wanted to go back to work. Darrell had adjusted to living in Nevada and he didn’t take a long time to learn his way around. He have met many new friends whom have grown to love him in the short time that God did allow. All whom have expressed their heartfelt words of losing him and how they will miss him as a friend. Darrell lived his life the best he knew how, always putting God first. Darrell would read his bible and loved listening to gospel music. He and Sabrina took time to pray together and attended church either in person or online.

Darrell who was addressed as “Honey”, by his wife Sabrina, called by his adult children “Daddy” and he loved his grandchildren and wanted to be in their lives every step of the way. Darrell loved it when he was called, "Grandpa and Papa Darrell”.

Darrell leaves behind a loving wife Sabrina; daughter Geri Wade; son-in-law Tremell Wade; grandchildren Thai Clark, Genesis Wade & Gourneigh Wade; son Darrell A. Hawthorne; sister Diane Thomas; brother-in-law Scott Thomas; brother Gerald Hawthorne; brother Nelson Jones; step daughter Erakina Holley; step son Akeem Greenfield; step son Andrese Greenfield; step son Alaric Greenfield; step son Adrian Greenfield; step son Ervin Greenfield and a host of relatives and friends.

Darrell was preceded in death by his mother Ophelia Hawthorne; his step father Shirley Jones; his brother Joey Jones; his mother-in-law Vernice Hayes.

Darrell now rests in the arms of Jesus, we shall see him again!
