Jerry was my neighbor and friend for over 30 years! He was always willing to help anyone . . . even if they didn't ask.  When my husband passed away, Jerry saw how overwhelmed I was and jumped right in and started making calls. He knew my husband was a VET, so he knew what needed to be done. I always enjoyed talking to him as we passed in the parking lot. He kept me informed of the neighborhood activities as he attended many of the Association meetings. I will miss him dearly, and my thoughts and prayers go out to Gloria, Sherri, and his entire family.

Jerry was the most giving loving man I’ve ever known! He started dating Gloria the same time I started dating my husband 38 years ago. He loved her and loved her girls like they were his own . He loved my mom Maybelle who was Gloria’s best friend for 59 years now! He loved me and my boys and took such good cars of my mom with Gloria when she was on Hospice!!! He will be so missed and I will always remember his silly jokes! 😂😂 He is with the girls Sherry and Terry my mom and my oldest Anthony and so many more in Heaven. Love You Always🙏✝️❤️❤️

In life, we meet many people. Some pass by without much notice, while others leave a mark that stays with us forever. A rare few shape who we are and how we see the world. For me, Gerry Fanning was one of those people. I met Gerry on his first day at Hoag Hospital, where we both worked in the Security Department. It was his “second act” after a long career elsewhere. At the time, Hoag was like a revolving door, you never knew who would stay or for how long. Gerry was different. He quickly went from being a new face to someone you couldn’t imagine the place without. The early 2000s in that department were, in many ways, the “Wild West.” We often faced unpredictable and sometimes dangerous situations. Through it all, Gerry proved himself as someone I could rely on completely, someone who had my back and, more than once, saved me from harm. Beyond the work, Gerry taught me about life and what it meant to be a good person. I’ll never forget when he said he’d bring in a few photos from his past. The next day, instead of a handful, he showed up with an entire banker’s box of memories. That was Gerry, full of stories, humor, and a generosity of spirit that drew everyone in. He could be wild and kooky in a way that lightened long shifts, yet he was steady, wise, and full of love. After I left Hoag, we stayed in touch here and there. A decade later, when I returned, Gerry was still the same man I had known, maybe slowed a bit, but with the same sharpness and the same readiness to step in when needed. He never lost his sense of purpose or his place as a trusted figure. I’ve included a few pictures from those days, including a drawing I once made of him as Santa Claus for Christmas 2006. To me, that picture captures so much of who Gerry was, joyful, giving, and larger than life.

My deepest sincere condolences to the friends and family of Gerald. My earliest memories of my cousin Gerald was his passionate knowledge of computers and technology. He seemed to be ahead of the era of computers.
I'm sure that Gerald left a good mark in life for all his friends and family to embrace in memories.

May you rest in peace. Your presence will be missed tremendously. I will always treasure the time that we spent together. I especially love that you were in my life for 52 years. You raised me like your own daughter. You put tassels on my tricycle you placed training wheels, and taught me how to ride a bike. Your patience’s and love when coaching me how to parallel park you were always there for me. 
You rooted me on like nobody else. I will miss you always in my corner.
