A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 1, at Son Light Christian Center at 172 N. Glassell in Orange at noon. Viewing will be between 10:00 and 12:00. In keeping with Joanie’s love of everything bright and beautiful we invite guests to wear cheerful or flower attire.
Joanie was such a light, so generous, so loving and ever so selfless. Always wanting to do everything for everyone with the biggest smile on her face. Her love language was most definitely acts of service and she never missed an opportunity to spoil those she loved. Joanie was raised to love Jesus by her father as he read her verses from the Bible as a child. She was eventually presented an opportunity to help in decorating a church, Sonlight Christian center, which led her to lean into her faith and accept Jesus into her heart. This inspired her to join the Mexico ministry where she would drive her big old green truck full of rice, beans, powdered milk, and necessary items to those in need in Tijuana. Often making valuable trips once a month to helping those in need.
Those that know Joanie know she was ambitious, talented, and the epitome of glamour and grace. She had a passion for design and saw life through a lens full of color. This inspired her to start her design business JoDel Creations in 1967 at the young age of 27. With humble beginnings starting in the garage of her home, she was soon recognized for her impeccably beautiful interior design which led her to work on model homes, yachts, TV studios and army base facilities. Through great success, she created a home base for her business in a 12,000 square-foot showroom in Santa Ana where she sold wholesale to designers. Later, she would eventually downsize to a quaint little retail shop in Old Towne Orange down the way from where she resided in a beautiful home in Orange Park Acres with her husband and love of her life, Hector.
In 2008 Joanie decided to retire from her business where she then enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and being involved in church activities. Her and Hector worked together to pour so much love into their home with her attention to gardening and decorating. She had rightfully earned the name as Flower Shop Grandma by some of her grandchildren. This home housed many animals along the years that both Joanie and Hector’s children and grandchildren enjoyed tending too. From deer, goats, turkey, geese, chickens and ducks, this little farm brought her so much comfort and happiness.
She enjoyed the simple things in life and among the most important was spending time with her dearest Hector. She loved taking trips to the movies and outings at restaurants or shopping for presents for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for any upcoming occasions. Her heart overflowed with devotion toward her husband and the family they shared together. She always had a way of making those around her feel so special and full of love.
There is one thing for certain, Joanie was a great role model to all of us.
To live a life filled with love in service under God and to others.
To live ambitiously with determination and passion for what and who you love.
To find the beauty in the simple things.
And to live life filled with color and joy.
“There are always flowers for those who want to see them”-Henri Matisse
Rest in Peace to our treasured Joanie Amezcua.
