

John Phillip Douthit went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2017. He was passionate about his family & friends as well as his service to others. John served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 through 1969; during his tour in the Marine Corps, John earned a Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, John joined the Santa Ana Police Department and had a very distinguished career as a police officer. John was selected as the Santa Ana Police Officer of the Year twice, once in 1985 and again in 1990. After 32 years of service, John reluctantly retired. John could not sit idly by so he began to volunteer and joined the VFW, Post 9557. Not only was John a member of the VFW, he served as the District 2 Commander from 2015 to 2016. John also joined the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Garden Grove #1952. John also loved playing golf! John was loved by many and will be truly missed. John is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Connie; two sons, Fred Banuelos and John Tyler Douthit; Three daughters, Michelle Duncan, Terri Bueno, and Dawn Douthit; John has eleven grandchildren, Ryan Banuelos, Eric Bueno, Michael Banuelos, Elizabeth Duncan, John Aaron Douthit, Clay Duncan, Marissa Bueno, Emily Gonsalves, Ashley Douthit, Trevor Douthit, and Manuel Gonsalves. We are blessed by the legacy he left behind and he will forever remain in our hearts.
