Lita was born on March 20, 1920 in Corona California, and was one of 5 children: Salvador, Natividad, Sara and Soledad, she also had a half-brother Nicolas Guillen. Lita is survived by four nieces and nephews, Richard, Jerry, Andrea and Nadine.
Our dear aunt Lita worked for most of her life. She started as a farm worker picking cotton and walnuts. During WWII she worked on an assembly line making parts for tanks. Later, she was employed by a fruit packing house, and eventually worked for Beckman Medical Instruments.
Lita loved working. She used to refer to her work in the packing house with much fondness and joy, this was a very special community to her with many special friends. While working at Beckman, she attended night school to pursue her high school diploma, and in 1970 she completed her course work and graduated at the age of 50. She was so proud of this moment in her life!
Lita retired at the age of 70.
Lita loved gardening. In the early years, she could be found in her yard planting flowers, pulling weeds and tending to her garden. Often she would sit and relax under one of her fruit trees. It was not until the age of 100 when the family was able to convince her that they would take care of her garden for her.
Her hobbies included sewing and knitting. The family has fond memories of her sewing special matching shirts and vests that she made for Richard and Jerry, when they were approximately 13 and 9 years of age.
When she was 102 years of age, she relocated to St Francis Home where she lived comfortably for the past two years.
The family would like to thank the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception at the St Francis Home where Lita received loving, compassionate care until the end of her stay with them.
