Maryon had an amazing life. She was born October 28th, 1929 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Frances and Pauline Gaston. They moved to Compton in 1940 where she graduated Compton High School in 1946. She married Phillip Miles Phelps in 1949 and had a baby girl, Teresa Ann in 1952. They were married 6 years. In 1961, she married the love of her life, John Richard Drenttel. He had 2 children from a previous marriage, Brad and Bill. They moved to Orange in 1965 and bought a house on Waverly street. There they met neighbors who would become lifelong friends. They all went camping together and kept in touch all these years. They called themselves the “Waverly gang”.
Maryon and John traveled in their 5 wheel every summer for 3 months after John retired. They went all over the United States fishing and meeting new friends as they went. They traveled to Canada, Europe, Hong Kong, and China. Went on cruises with friends and loved to love life. They joined the elks in Santa Ana. Maryon was active in the Does and the Tustin area Women’s Club. They also belonged to the Candlelighters and made many friends along the way. John sadly passed in 1995, they were married 34 years.
Maryon loved camping, fishing with John, square dancing, her house with a view, her dogs Pepi, Rocky, Misty and Daisy and most of all her daughter. We used to go to lunch then shopping all day till we were ready to drop then we still shopped more.
She is survived by her daughter Teresa, stepson Brad, grandaughter Tammy nieces Maryon and Sandy, and nephews Barry, Mark and Todd.
Maryon is preceded in death by her husband John Drenttel, her sister, Oleita, brother, Doyle, sister-in-law Lorraine, stepson Bill, dogs, Pepi, Rocky, Misty and many friends.
I love my Mom so much and will miss her with all my heart.
