
Robert “Bob” Stumpf was born May 9th, 1932, in New York. He was raised in New Jersey with his mother Eva, father Chris, and older sister Dorothy.
After Bob’s graduation from high school, he enlisted in the army in 1951 and was stationed at Fort Shafter in Hawaii where he served as a military Photographer. Bob continued his passion for photography after his military service working as a wedding photographer. His first daughter Chrys was born in 1954 followed by Gary in 1955, and Karen in 1959. After Bob graduated from Rutgers University in 1964 he was employed by Dupont and transferred to California to be the Sales Manager for the new Riston Film resist division. During his many years of service with Dupont, he traveled to many cities including a 3-year transfer to Australia. Upon his return to the states, he started a position with Dynachem which later became Morton Thiokol and then Dow Chemical. Shortly after he started with Dynachem Bob was transferred to Japan where he met Amy. Bob and Amy married in 1979 and returned to the states shortly after only to be transferred again to Italy for another year. Bob officially retired from Morton International in 1999.
Bob and Amy’s retirement years were filled with their love for travel. They traveled to all corners of the world from African Safari’s in Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambi to Egypt, the Amazon, China and more. Bob and Amy’s travels are well documented in photo albums and photos hanging on the walls throughout their house.
When Bob and Amy weren’t traveling, they were square dancing with the Orange Coast Lariats. Bob was very active on the Square Dance board as the Second Vice President for many years. Bob is famous for making his Sherbert Punch that was loved by all. He hosted the Annual 4th of July potluck drawing up to 150 people for 14 years. Bob closed off the cul-de-sac and turned it into space for square dancing squares. Bob and Amy made many lifelong square dance friends over the years. They traveled together to many cities including organizing a trip to Japan. Bob was the Historian for the club and made many albums to document all the events.
Bob’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren most memorable memories include the annual Easter Egg dying, making homemade fresh Strawberry Ice Cream, and Christmas Eve flaming Cherries Jubilee. Bob’s love for travel will live on in his grandchildren as they are determined to carry on his legacy.
Bob is survived by his wife Amy of 45 years, daughter Chrys Crable, son Gary Stumpf, and daughter Karen Reininga, 8 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Fairhaven Memorial Park Mortuary, located at 1702 Fairhaven Avenue, Santa Ana, CA 92705, on December 5, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
Following the funeral, a graveside service will take place at the same location from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
