Ruth, her preferred name, was born in Greenville, Kentucky to Charles and Willie Caskey on February 17, 1924. She was a member of a large farming family and was educated in a small K-12 school. Ruth had seven siblings, with the eldest being Carly. Twins Mel and Judy soon followed and then Millie and Mabel. Ruth was born after Mabel. Charles and Willie had another set of twins, James Lee and Marie to finish their family. The family went from farm to city life when they moved to Redlands, CA, due to the ill health of her mother Willie.
Ruth met Herb Daniels in Redlands while working at a restaurant. They fell in love quickly and married on January 17, 1942. They lived in Long Beach, CA until WWII was over. Ruth worked as a Rosie Riveter while Herb went off to be a paratrooper. After the war, they moved to Garden Grove, CA where they spent the rest of their married life.
Ruth became a devoted wife and mother to seven children. Dennis, Marlene, Doris, Gloria, Connie, Dan, and Judy received all the love and attention they needed from our Mom. Her life as a mother was a busy one, with cleaning, cooking, and trying to connect with all of her children. Mom had a special mother radar that told her when her children were hurting or sad. She would listen to us and then try to give words of wisdom and kindness. Even with all the chaos, she managed to look elegant and well dressed. She was a beautiful person inside and out.
Our Mom did manage to have some fun. She enjoyed playing badminton in the backyard. She loved playing poker and pinochle with the family and friends. Our brother Denny always had a good joke or two to impart. She liked board games and reading books. She faithfully read the Bible everyday and was very religious. She passed that on to her children as well. She also liked motorhome trips with our cousins Tom and Kay. They saw a lot of America from that motorhome.
Our family enjoyed our visits with Mom and Dad. We played games, laughed, and just enjoyed being together. Because we were such a close family, we all were devastated to lose Connie, Mom's daughter and our sister, on June 6, 2010. Later that same year, Mom lost her dear husband and we lost our beloved Father to Alzheimer's on December 31, 2010. Mom went on to enjoy her children, 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. They were a blessing to have her and she enjoyed watching them play in their big backyard. She also loved to give them popsicles, cookies, and sometimes candy.
On February 19, 2016 Mom lost her oldest son, our dear brother Denny. We all still feel the loss of our loved ones. Mom especially felt that loss because she loved her family very much.
Unfortunately our mother also had Alzheimer's. She had help from her children and some wonderful caregivers which included her grandchildren. She spent her last year in a beautiful board and care until she passed pn May 23, 2022, at the age of 98.
She will be missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, and relatives.
You were the best Mom and very much loved!
