William S. Lewis, (Uncle Bill), passed away at his home in Laguna Woods, CA., August 10, 2016 at the age of 88. He was born in Santa Ana, California on January 31, 1928 and has lived in various parts of California, the majority as an Orange County Resident in Huntington Beach, Anaheim and Laguna Woods. He attended and graduated from Huntington Beach High School in 1946 and due to his high aptitude in Mathematics was accepted at Cal Berkeley. Soon thereafter he returned to Huntington Beach and joined the City of Huntington Beach Public Works and Street Department as a Surveyor. He courted and married his high school sweetheart, Gwenith Miles and they married in the end of 1948. Bill worked his way up within the Public Works and Street Department to Street Superintendent. In 1968 he accepted a promotion as Superintendent of Public Works for the City of Anaheim, where he serviced with distinction. After retirement, Bill found an opportunity to continue his associations in the public works and street industry by joining Petrochem Manufacturing, (PMI), in sales. He enjoyed bonding with his many friends and associations in city, county and state organizations throughout the western United States in order to ‘seal coat’ as many streets and highways that he could find. As for his family life, Gwen and Bill were married sixty-seven years and she is survived by their two sons, David and Darrel, their daughter, Sheri Wernke, 6 grandchildren and 8 great children. Tragically, two grandsons passed away before him. Bill Lewis was an active outdoorsman, which resulted in his extensive service in the Orange Empire Boy Scouts of America. Over the years he serviced as Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster, and many other regional council positions. He received the Silver Beaver Award among many other awards and recognitions. In his earlier years Bill was very active in the Huntington Beach Chapter of Rotary Club.
