Eddie Arabe left his hometown of Binalonan, Pangasinan P.I. at the age of 18 and came to America by joining the U.S. Army. He met his wife Cora in 1953 and married in 1960. They resided in the city of Santa Clara where they raised their 7 children. In the early Sixties, Eddie embarked on a goal he desired and petitioned for his family to come to the United States. One by one, he was able to achieve his goal by bringing his 6 siblings (3 brothers/3 sisters) plus his Mother to the U.S. by 1992. In the Army, Eddie was deployed on Tours of Duty to Korea and Vietnam. He specialized in the EOD unit, which handled explosives. After his Vietnam tour Eddie was stationed in San Francisco on the military base, Presidio. His unit would handle all Bomb Squad situations for the S.F.P.D. After 26 years in the military, Eddie retired from the US Army and began his second career as a Postal Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service in 1974. While working full-time, he attended night school at Mission College in 1984 to earn his Associates Degree in Business. With 19 years of service, Eddie retired from the US Postal Service in 1994. Eddie was an advocate in the Filipino Community, a Past President of (BANC) Binalonan Association of Northern California, and an Advisor in the Filipino Community Center. Eddie was a Post Commander of VFW Post 714 and performed many Color Guard Funeral Services throughout the Bay Area. Along with his wife they would attend dances, parties and picnics to all these functions mentioned above. On the Fourth of July, he would invite family and friends to his house to watch fireworks from Great America theme park. There would be up to 100 guests at his house. In 1996, Eddie was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer which required major surgery and in 2008 at the age of 80 his cancer had come back. However, according to his doctor, Eddie’s health was in good condition and surgery would be possible. After 7 hours of extensive surgery, the doctor was able to remove all of the cancer cells from his esophagus and vocal cords. During his retired life, Eddie enjoyed taking walks to the local golf range and hit balls. He would also tend to his backyard garden and care for the dogs. He enjoyed picking up his grand children from school only to treat them to McDonalds. Eddie loved Crossword Puzzles, Sudoku and watching Pro Golf on TV.
