James Troy Rampy, known as Troy, passed away in the early morning hours of May 1, 2010 at the age of 89. He was born June 3, 1920 to James and Alma Rampy in Abilene, Texas and grew up working on his father’s farm. He entered World War II as a Navy Sea Bee building air strips in the South Pacific. Upon his return, he worked in retail hardware until he opened his own hardware store, the legendary Kirkwood Hardware in Campbell, California. For a time, Kirkwood was the largest family-owned hardware store in the Santa Clara valley. Many loyal customers mourned the closing of Kirkwood in 2000 when Troy retired after 35 years.
Troy will be remembered as a true gentleman with a genial smile and an easy way about him. He was also a Mason and became Master of his Lodge in Cupertino. He and his loving wife Frances enjoyed a wide circle of adoring friends and loved to entertain and travel. They logged in over 40 cruises all over the world and enjoyed a specially planned around-the-world vacation.
Troy is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Frances, sons Troy and Sid, daughter-in-law Angel, grandchildren Ariana, Samuel and Adrian, brother Aubrey, sisters Willa and Janette, as well as many other loving relatives and friends. Troy will be remembered and missed.
