Joseph John Ginger entered the Gates of Heaven on April 11, 2017 in the company of his beloved family. Joseph will be remembered as a man of strong Catholic faith, love, compassion, and integrity who devoted his life to his family.
Joseph was born on July 23, 1955 to Manuel and Adeline “Dolly” Ginger. He was the youngest son of five children. He was a lifetime resident of Santa Clara, California. As a child, he loved to go fishing with his dad on the California Coast. Joseph was a gifted athlete who had a passion for baseball and cross country (his personal best was 21 miles in one day). He worked at the San Jose Mercury News for over twenty years.
Joseph met the love of his life, Eldita Ginger, at a wedding in 1984. The couple was married in 1986 and celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary last July. Joseph and Eldita had one child, their darling daughter Christina Ginger. Joseph was the best husband and father in the universe whose constant love, guidance, support, and protection made “his girls” who they are today.
Joseph inherited the golden heart of his beloved mother. His love and grace touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him in this life. He loved singing to his favorite music (especially Elvis Presley) and cheering on his beloved World Champion San Francisco Giants. He was very proud when the San Francisco 49ers moved to his hometown. He loved the ocean and often visited Half Moon Bay and Monterey with his family. His favorite family vacations were to Nicaragua, Hawaii, Disneyland and Scottsdale for Spring Training.
Joseph was preceded in death by his loving parents, Manuel and Adeline “Dolly” Ginger, and brothers, David Ginger and William Ginger. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Eldita Ginger; daughter, Christina Ginger; brother, Ronald Ginger; sister, Juliette Ginger Eke; and countless nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws who were very dear to his heart.
The visitation will be held on Monday, April 24, from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Lima Family Mortuary in Santa Clara, with a rosary at 7:00 PM. The Catholic funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 25, at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Santa Clara, followed by the burial at 11:00 AM at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will follow the services.
