August 2, 1931 to January 22, 2013
Born: Marlene Lorraine Reynolds, August 2, 1931 to parents Eva Lou and Sequin Reynolds . She was born and raised in Santa Clara Valley along with her two siblings, older sister Loretta and younger brother Richard. The family moved to Hawaii two weeks before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, she was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
After returning to California, Marlene attended Luther Burbank School and then Santa Clara High School, where she was a Cheerleader and met her high school sweetheart Phil Hayes. Phil and Marlene married in Washington D.C. 1952, during Phil’s service to his country. They celebrated 60 years together in 2012. Husband Phil worked as a Physical Education teacher, Varsity Baseball and Golf Coach at Santa Clara High School, where he retired after 35 years.
Marlene’s first job was in a bank, then as a bookkeeper for Bordens Milk Company and in Food Service for the Berryessa School District. She also served as President of the PTA for Arch Wilson Elementary School Cupertino and spent countless hours volunteering her time with various organizations.
The most important job to Marlene was of a full-time homemaker and mother. She had three children, Jill, Phil and Wendy, and two grandchildren, Mari and Parker that she adored. She was always there to support her Husband, Children and Grandchildren. Whether it be Girl Scouts, Piano lessons, Cheerleading, Gymnastics, Dance, Baseball, Wrestling, Plays, Grandma Day-care, countless Fundraising events, and family dinners. Staying connected as a loving family was her passion.
Marlene also loved spending time with her extended family and friends, going shopping, lunches with friends, getting her hair done, having manicures and pedicures, playing golf and especially attending lots of parties and family celebrations.
Marlene was small in stature but mighty at the same time. She was not afraid to speak her mind, especially when she felt something was not right. She was concerned about the leadership of our country and worked on the 1996 election committee of Ross Perot.
She will always be remembered as a generous, thoughtful, sweet, loving and strong lady with “style”!
Thank you Marlene, for touching our lives and making us all better people from knowing you!
A Memorial Celebration of Marlene's life will be at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 3013 at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N Winchester Blvd.
