Mary Rizzo

Mary died peacefully at the age of 95. Mary was born in the city of Santa Clara and is one of 13 children born to Johan and Antonia (Kumek) Korotaj early settlers of Santa Clara County . In 1921 the ten acre family ranch was on Jarvis Road in San Jose . Mary spent her early years working on the ranch picking prunes, walnuts and cutting apricots. A 1928 Korotaj family picture cutting apricots at their family ranch on Jarvis Road is proudly displayed in the San Jose Historical Museum . Mary graduated from Campbell High School class of 1933 and Healds Business College . She worked many years as a bookkeeper in San Jose . Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband Dominic Rizzo.

She is survived by her sisters, Draga Millich, Katherine Kaus, Carolina Barbano, and Louise Tedford and a brother Charles Korotaj, sister-in-law Lena Caruso, step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Eliza who cared for Mary for the past 5 years at the Lovely Care Home in San Jose . Friends and family are invited to a service at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery (St. Clare Chapel) on Friday September 10, 2010 at 11:00am with internment to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to the American Heart Society or your favorite charity would be preferred.
