

Philip Hayes was born and raised in San Jose to Trinidad and Philip Hayes along with his nine siblings. The family spent their childhood in the Santa Clara Valley where Philip graduated from Santa Clara High School, a talented athlete who excelled in sports. Drafted to the Dodgers professional baseball team and the Army at the same time, he moved to Washington D.C. with his high school sweetheart Marlene. They married in 1952 during his service to his country. Philip returned to San Jose after his four-year service, where he completed his teaching credential at San Jose State University. He then worked as a teacher and coach at Santa Clara High School for 35 years.Philip and Marlene raised three beautiful children, Jill, Phil Jr., and Wendy and was the proud “papa” of Mari and Parker. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, his brothers Don and Ken Hayes and his sister Alyce Genovese. He was a devoted father always there to support his kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews in their various activities. More than anything he loved getting together with friends and family and had a genuine love for life. His humor and loving spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Friends and family are invited to his celebration of life on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at 11am at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N. Winchester Blvd. Santa Clara.
