After a valiant fight against bone cancer, Russ passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 89. He was born and raised in his beloved Chicago, Illinois, where he met the love of his life, Phyllis. They were one month shy of celebrating 59 years of marriage. After serving in the Navy he went to work for Western Electric. It was there that he earned the nickname “Ace,” because of his impeccable flair for dressing. In 1964 he was transferred out west, settling in Santa Clara. He was an avid sports fan and stayed true to his Chicago teams, especially his Cubbies. Russ retired from Western Electric in 1982, after almost 36 years of service. He then spent the next 33 years happily retired.
For those people who knew Russ, or encountered him, you can recall that he would always end the conversation with “Thank-you my friend” and mean it. He had a unique gift for making people feel special, with his warm smile, positive thinking, and endless compliments. All of which came from his sincere heart.
He is survived by his loving wife “Phyl/Ma”, his 3 children, Rick, Cindy, Guy, and son-in-law Allen, all of whom he was immensely proud of. And also, his 3 grandchildren who were the light of his life, Jody, Jill, and Cory (his best friend.) He will be dearly missed; but, thankfully, he leaves behind a lot of good memories.
No services are planned, however if you would like to make a donation to your favorite charity in his name it would be greatly appreciated. Also, his family would like to ask you to give the gift of a compliment to someone you know or don’t know, in his honor.
