Thomas Holbrook Slack passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 from natural causes. He suffered a several year battle with Alzheimer’s and had only recently been placed in a care home the previous month. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered for his generosity and contribution to the community. Tom was born in Mineola, New York to Harry and Elizabeth Slack. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He met and married his wife Joann in 1958 and remained married to her until his death. After a brief employment at Douglas Aircraft from 1957-1960, he and his wife moved to Santa Clara and enjoyed a successful 32 year career at Lockheed. He retired in 1992. Shortly after retirement, Tom was struck with sudden blindness and became an active member of the Lyons Blind Center of Santa Clara Valley and served as President of the Board of Directors in 1997. He was also active in a Bay Area cooking club and enjoyed serving up his delicious meals to friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; devoted children Kenneth Slack and wife, Diane of Maryland; and Karen Furman of Modesto, CA; and grandchildren, David Slack of Maryland, and Miranda and Sterling Furman of Modesto. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Haas of Florida, and brother William Slack of New Hampshire. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N. Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara, where the Funeral Service will also be held on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Mission City Memorial Park.
