Caroline Fermin Reyes, age 73, passed away January 14, 2021. She was born December 22, 1947 in Manila, Philippines to Jose and Consuelo Fermin. After immigrating to the United States in 1975 she met Jose Reyes and they married on December 4, 1976 in Chicago, Illinois. Caroline was a dedicated daughter, loving wife, devoted mother, a hard-working individual, a reliable friend, a supportive sister and relative, and flourished most as a doting grandmother.
At her core, Caroline was passionate about helping people. From her first job in the Philippines as an elementary school teacher to her work with the elderly for over 30 years at St. Martha Manor nursing home in Chicago, Caroline dedicated her life to uplifting and supporting others in the improvement of their lives. Caroline’s commitment to being of service to others was most evident in the way she took care of her family. She always left a distinctive and thoughtful mark on the homes of all her loved ones via her penchant and gift for organizing. If you couldn’t find something in your home, chances are Carol would know! Caroline was also a fiercely spirited person who loved to recollect stories from the past, pray, listen and sing along to songs, and laugh. And boy did you have to watch out if you really made Carol laugh as her infectious exuberance was contagious but also came with a jovial push of excitement! Caroline’s love of life was felt by all and her legacy lives on in everyone’s love and memories of her.
Caroline is survived by her loving husband Joe; her grateful daughter and son and their spouses Josephine and Pramod Atluri, Christopher and Farita Reyes; her adoring grandchildren Jaiden, Malena, Mateo, Mason Jose, Deion, and Dante; her siblings Bibiana Fermin, Manuel Fermin, Julie Ellenburg, Rebecca San Agustin, Nena Hernandez, Jose Fermin, Angie Tompkins, Cristina Fermin, and Concepcion Pamintuan; and her many cousins, nieces and nephews. Family was of the utmost importance to Caroline and she devoted her love and time to caring for all of them.
