You’ve been gone from us for two years now, but not a day passes that we don’t think of you. Christmas brings us joy, even if you’re not here, especially when we sing The Twelve Days of Christmas. Everyone just thinks about you, and misses you, and loves you even more.

It was an unpleasant surprise when Facebook announced that my friend Carol passed away. Were we not just communicating a couple of days ago? I asked myself.

Carol and I became better friends after she left Chicago to join her daughter in New Hampshire. She told me that she and Joe wanted to help their daughter and her fast growing family balance work pressure and family life. This was Carol’s compassionate heart.

The fondest memory I have of her was when 
she and her sisters started a Bible Study online during lockdown.  What a wonderful way to spend time at home to be in the Word of God. This was another side of Carol that I admired.

Yes, she is being missed already but Eternal Life in heaven is available to all of us who have a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus. Then, someday, we can have a reunion with Carol and our family and friends like no other!!!

It was back in the 1960s, around Christmas time or during one of our family reunions, under the macopa tree (or was it duhat tree?) in your front yard at the Pag-asa St. home, where you and I had chatted and exchanged much good-natured banter, or whatever childhood cousins talk about.  We did not talk for any considerable length of time, maybe 20 minutes or half an hour at best, but that moment in time is forever etched in my heart.  That warm feeling when talking to a friend, I remember, all the while forgetting about what  tree it was, or the occasion, or what we chatted about.  I remember a feeling of warmth, joy, acceptance, even euphoria (if that is at all possible) just chatting with you and being around you, Carol.  I knew then that I was in the presence of someone very special, very sweet and loving.  You exuded love, warmth and joy, and I remember that feeling whenever I think about you.

As it turns out from reading most of the remarks on this site, I was not the only lucky person to  have been blessed with your warm friendship.  Carol, you will always be remembered in our hearts.

We first met Carol after Josephine’s college graduation. Since then she was always a welcoming presence at family gatherings. She always greeted us with warm hugs, large quantities of fruit,
and genuine interest in how we were doing. Her love of family was evident as she doted on each new arrival (they usually came in pairs!) and we could see what a wonderful source of love
and support she was for Josephine and Pramod. Soon our kids also came to call her Lola and enjoyed being showered with her kindness and affection during visits. We noted that she was always tidying and cleaning — clearly that’s where Josephine gets her talent for organization. Mothers have a rightful claim to credit for the character and qualities they nurture in their children — and Carol must have been so proud of
the son and daughter she raised with Joe. We adore Josephine and Chris and are lucky to have them in our family. Their kindness, generosity, devotion to family and boundless energy are an inspiration.

Carol’s legacy lives on in the grace and courage her children demonstrate as they face life’s challenges.

We know that Jaiden, Malena, Mateo, Deion and Dante and Mason will miss their beloved grandmother, and we’re so touched to read their eloquent memorial messages. We wish Lolo Joe, Josephine, Pramod, Chris, Farita and the entire extended family peace and comfort in their love for and shared memories of Lola Carol.

Ma, I do not know where to start because I'm so lost for words and tears won't stop falling.   From the day Chris introduced me to you and Dad Joe, I was welcomed into the family without hesitation. You showed nothing but kindness, love and generosity towards me and even my family as I became part of yours.   I love that we got along and even talk on the phone or fb chat.  You always made me feel confident about raising MJ and I was doing a great job doing various activities with him.   It meant a lot to me because as a mom I always questioned myself and also because the compliment came from you, a great loving mom.    Thank you Ma for everything! Sending our hugs & love  up in heaven.  


I sat in silence & sadness when I learned of your passing. 
    
We just texted each other about meeting soon as this pandemic is over. We reminisced about our ‘jack stone’ days in Mandaluyong.

In Carol’s memory,

There was warmth in her voice, there was kindness. I was able to sense the glue with which God united Carol and Joe. As they drove me to the airport Carol and Joe were chatting with me with such affection even from just knowing me for a few hours before. On the plane back to Chicago I concluded the obvious kindness in Carol and Joe is a trade of the Fermin clan. As that thought landed on me, next it was followed by a motion of thanksgiving to the Lord for His grace upon me for allowing me to know Carol, Joe and the family. Joe was driving, and many of my memories are of Carol’s sharing out in a nutshell their life with such tenderness that brings anyone into a vision of being right away as part of their family. They made such an impression that the still picture of Joe on the wheel and Carol’s indulging conversation are very fresh in my memory. I thank you Lord for granted me the unique opportunity of meeting her in this side of eternity.  Lord we ask you to keep her memory and legacy abundant throughout generations to come. Amen. 


My dearest Lola Carol, the joyful moments and great times we’ve had together can easily be written in more than 2,000 words. It pains me more than anything that you are not here with us physically, but you will live on through us spiritually.  I am eternally grateful that you were a piece of the puzzle that is our family. Whenever I saw you, you would always ask me how I am doing in school and compliment me on my hair, saying how pretty it is. I would always enjoy talking with you, my mom, and the other lolas at family gatherings. All of the times that we spent together will have a special place in my heart. Loving, warm and kind are the words that come to mind when I think of Caroline Aunty.  I had the fortunate opportunity to get to know her when she lived in Lexington, MA. She always had a big smile and warm welcome for us, especially for Armaan and Ishaan. The conversation was always about the children and making sure everyone had enough to eat.  Well, we were in Josephine's house, so the reality was that there was always too much yummy food!  I'm sure it must have been difficult to leave Chicago and move to Lexington, but I never heard a single complaint. Well, actually, that is not entirely true. We both did complain to each other about Josephine doing too much and  not listening when we told her to slow down. I remember also sharing disapproving looks with Aunty when Pramod was, in our opinion, too strict on the kids!  Aunty lived for her family, and especially her grandchildren. We are lucky to have had her in our lives and will always remember her in our hearts. 

To our beloved sister Carol,

We think about you always remembering all the jokes that you shared with us during our prayer meetings. You made us laugh so much especially the Erap jokes. Carol you have never been forgotten and you will never will. We hold you close within our hearts and these you will remain, to walk and guide us through  our lives like our Angel until we meet again. Love you my sister.

To my dear auntie Carol,  thank you so much for all the great memories and always being there for us growing up. You brought so much love to everyone with your smile and energy. I didnt see Auntie Carol often. Only on my visits to Chicago or LA, but she was always ready to greet us with a smile and a hug. 
Talking to Auntie Carol was easy. She would tell me jokes with the punch line often mixed up, then she'd punch my arm lovingly and laugh because it was wrong. She always told me what a great job I did raising my children, which I sometimes really needed to hear. I can't think of her without smiling. She was honestly kind and genuine and full of love for her family.
In the last few months, we discovered a shared love of Hallmark movies and gave each other suggestions on messenger. I enjoyed late night conversations with her. She was always one of the first to like and comment on all my pictures. 
I will miss you so much. I love you Auntie Carol. Rest in Peace



Auntie Carol,

I lay here in bed with tears running down my face as I try to share a memory of you on your memorial. As you know, I am not one who is good with words nor sharing my feelings, I have always been a quiet one. But with you, it was easy. Maybe it’s because you loved to talk, lol 😂. 

Whenever we had family gatherings, Auntie Carol would always tell me to come sit, relax, and we would just talk. She always made sure that the kids and I ate enough, and that I packed enough food to take home. I would end up with more than what I packed because she would always send me home with extra snacks for the kids. 

I will truly miss her beautiful smile, and her kind, caring, and compassionate voice. When you spoke with her, she made you feel loved and gave you a sense that everything would be okay. 

I love you Auntie Carol. You will forever be in our hearts.

My dearest sister Carol and I shared a very special bonding growing up as she and I were born consecutively. We went to the same schools from elementary to college. We went to the same parties together, did chores together, and laughed and cried together.

Back in March of 2020, we started a prayer meeting online, praying for not only our family, but for everyone’s safety. We started reading the Bible and although she called me their professor, she was way ahead of me in reading the Bible. After the prayer meeting, she would ask me to play some of her favorite music and she introduced me to someone who I have never heard of before and has now became my favorite singer too.

One thing I will always remember about her is how she told us her funny jokes because she always mixed them up. I loved it when she always asked me to say my favorite joke about the grapes. My other wonderful and loving siblings would know what I’m  talking about.

Carol brought joy and happiness to everyone. She always thought about everyone else before herself. She was the kindest and sweetest person you would ever want to meet. 

She may not be with us anymore, but I will hold her in my ❤️ forever. I will miss her beautiful smile, and most especially her face that lights up and says, I LOVE YOU.

Carol, you know that I love you so much. You may have left us all heartbroken, but I know that you will be happy up there with our dearly beloved. Give them my love, hugs, and kisses.

There are so many memories we shared together, it’s hard to find a place to start. She enjoyed sitting outside and having conversations about family or career choices for me. When our dear sister Carol passed away unexpectedly weeks ago it was painfully devastating for me. I couldn’t believe it at first. I didn’t want to believe it at all.
Her face always has a beautiful smile and it kept flashing across my mind over and over again. As difficult as it is, I do not want to dwell on our significant loss, but instead focus on how truly remarkable sister she was to all of us.
Growing up, she took care of us younger siblings with so much love, care and affection. It’s beyond words. She brought us many happy memories and brightened the darkest days. She was always there for us. She gave us unconditional love and made us all feel special and important to her.

Now that she’s gone, I couldn’t help but wished I told her more often how much I loved her. How amazing she is for touching our lives in her humble ways. How wonderful she is for helping us without expecting anything in return. How gracious she is when she gives comforting hugs during our family gatherings. How heartwarming it is to see her face always with a beautiful smile. How endearing she is to all of us when talk about our childhood days. How she made us all feel loved.

Our dearest sister Carol is beautiful, loving, charming, sophisticated, intelligent, elegant, graceful, caring and truly a wonderful sister to all of us. She is very special. That is how I will remember her. Her memory will live in my heart forever. She will always have a place in my heart that no one can fill.

 Auntie Carol was the sweetest, most caring woman I've ever met. She never had a bad word to say about anyone, and I always felt loved, beautiful, and validated when I was around her, and I know I'm not the only one. Her smile was as beautiful as her loving personality was. Rest in peace Auntie Carol, I love you.

Auntie Carol would always comment on my Instagram posts, and I would always expect her to compliment my outfit or just me in general. This showed how much of a loving, tender hearted, and warm hearted person she was. She was always ask me to play piano, and I would always be so glad to serenade her, knowing that she would enjoy my music I would play for her. I wish I can thank her one last time for being such a great individual, as she was such a caring person. 

My Son Arya went to preschool with Caroline’s adorable Grandsons Dante & Deion and very early on they bonded at Preschool.  

One day I asked Arya after picking him up from school what made him smile at school today and he told me “Mama! I learned today that Dante & Deion have a “Lola” who is like my Nannamma and she does so many fun things with them and they love her, just like how I love my Nannamma and that’s why we’re best friends!” 

From everything I have heard from Josephine & her Grandchildren, Caroline was an incredibly kind person and such a devoted Grandmother.  We are so tremendously sorry for your loss Reyes & Atluri Families.  May Caroline’s soul Rest In Peace and may her beautiful legacy live on, always.  Hugs, ~ the Kaki Family 

Tita Carol always commented on my music posts on the various social media platforms. It was a good reminder that someone out there was paying attention. She was a kind soul and will be sorely missed. The world was better with her in it. 

I watch a lot of tv shows and movies. I am not particularly a fan of romance movies or dramas, but both of them have one thing in common. Very awkward cliches. One of my least favorite chiches is, “You never realize how important someone is to you until they’re gone.” Well, now is the part where I use this cliche. Caroline Reyes, or what I call her, Lola, was my grandmother. She was an amazing person who led an amazing life. I really didn’t realize how much she meant to me until she was gone. On the day I learned the news, I had a pretty normal day. It was a Thursday, I had a normal school day, and then a normal practice. After my practice I had a normal haircut, and I went upstairs to my room to wash my hair. That’s when it happened. And I really can’t express the way I felt when my father knocked on my door, I opened it happily, and he told me the news. But what I can tell you, is that it was anything but normal. So many emotions rushed through my body. The only thing I could do was embrace my father and my older brother. The hardest part of the whole thing was watching my little brothers. They are young, and will always be babies to me. But, they didn’t understand the concept of death. And I can’t blame them because I don’t understand it that much myself. Lola was always there for everyone. In our final house in Boston, she and her husband, Jose Reyes, my Lolo, lived in another house connected to ours. From then on, I was accustomed to be surrounded by my grandparents. My little brothers had a very affectionate connection to Lola. They were always around her and playing with her. I love watching her play with the little ones because of their connection.. Whenever she left, they would always be saying things like, “Where is Lola,” and “Why isn’t Lola here?”  That’s what memories are for. They are made to be remembered, and I will always remember you Lola.. I love you Lola. I always will.

I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you actually left them. When I was a little boy, around six or seven, almost all of my memories, have my Lola in them. I remember how I used to play so many games with her. I remember how she used to sit me and my brother Mateo down at the kitchen table at her house and make us a steaming bowl of rice with bits of bacon and scrambled eggs mixed in. I used to get so excited when visiting her and my grandfather Lolo’s house. I miss those times. When I was young and curious. When I didn’t worry, or feel anxious, or wonder what I was doing with my life. All I knew was that I had my family, and I was safe. I was loved. I was cared for. I’m the type of person to forget the most basic things. I often take things for granted. Like how I got adopted by such a caring family. Or how I grew up with having four grandparents, something that not many kids get the luxury of having. As I grew older and older,  I took my time with her for granted, not really taking in every moment. I never thanked her for taking care of me when my parents couldn’t. I never thanked her for sleeping in my room with me because I was scared that there were monsters in my closet. I never got the chance to thank her for anything, and realizing that as I am writing this feels like a punch to the stomach. I never got to say anything to her and yet she still loved me, she still cared for me, even if she got nothing in return. She was such a selfless and caring person. It pains me to realize that I will never get to feel her embrace again, but I know that she is still watching over me, and if she was here with me, she’d tell me that everything is going to be okay. I love you Lola, I always will.

Not everyone is lucky enough to have grown up with their grandmother by their side. Some of us don’t even have our parents. I was lucky to have both. I was raised by not only my mom and my dad but my grandma and my grandpa as well. 
A couple of  months ago I was filling out applications, and there was a question that read, “What is a memory that you wish to relive?” I was thinking about all of my favorite moments. My mind took me all the way across the country back in Boston because I thought the things that are further away from me I would miss most. I didn’t realize the things I would miss the most would be the things right in front of me.
My grandmother was an exceptional person.I would tell you about all my favorite moments with her, but I can’t. If I did I would end up sharing every moment I was lucky enough to share with her. My mind keeps replaying these events over and over again, thinking of all the fun we used to have. 
Once, we were even lying on a bed crying because we were laughing so hard. We were reading my baby brother a story and he would just keep laughing and giggling, but every time he giggled he would fart! Once we were halfway through the story we had to change him. The only problem was, we didn’t know how to do that. Eventually we just tied it on and continued reading the book. 
After a little while we had to change him again! We kept laughing and giggling and by the end of the book we were laughing so much tears were trickling down our face, and we could barely breathe. 
I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have been able to experience twelve years full of laughter, fun, and excitement. I owe it all to my grandma and my grandma. For whom, I would not have known who I am or where I come from. For every precious moment, the good and the bad, I will savor deep in my heart forever. Thank you Lola for giving me my heart and my soul. I love you.


Although Carol is no longer physically with us,  she lives in our hearts forever. 
May you find comfort and peace in knowing we have  Joe, Josephine, Pramod, Jaiden, Mateo, Malena, Dante, Dion, Chris, Farita and MJ in our thoughts and prayers.
We will forever cherish all the moments and memories we shared with Carol.
We have lost our beloved Carol, but God has given us an Angel and she will continue to watch over us.
We miss you so much Carol.

I’m going to miss you so much.  I’m thankful that we all had a zoom meeting for Christmas.  I’ll cherish and remember your beautiful smile and your gentle soul.  You were always so loving and caring.  May you Rest In Peace.
