Dan was the loving son of Pittsburgh attorney David B. Fawcett Jr. and his wife, Janet Fawcett, of Glenshaw, PA.
Dan is survived by his three siblings: Betsy (Tony) Basinski, Emily Fawcett, and Dave (Kathleen) Fawcett; his many nieces and nephews who he adored: Annie (Chad) Dubsky; Bobby (Dena) Basinski; Rachel Cohen; Claire (Boris) Romanovsky; Amelia Fawcett and Daniel Fawcett his step-niece Heather (Michael) Shurina and step-nephew Parker (Katie) Trow. Dan is also survived by his beloved dog Bama who, usually adorned with festive garb or carrying a Terrible Towel, followed Dan, and was ready to pose, wherever they went.
Dan graduated from Shady Side Academy, Tufts University and, following the footsteps of his grandfather, his father, and his brother, obtained a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law while also obtaining an M.B.A. from Carnegie-Mellon University.
Dan began his legal career as a corporate attorney in the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia offices of Reed Smith. On a plane trip, by pure serendipity, Dan sat next to and struck up a conversation with an executive at a local Pittsburgh network, KBL Sports. KBL, later Prime Sports, became his client, then hired him, launching Dan’s career in the Entertainment Industry. Within a few years, Dan moved to Los Angeles to become Vice President and General Counsel of Fox Sports. Later Dan was V.P. and General Counsel of DirectTV; Head of Digital Media at News Corp; and then a Founding Director of Hulu before his retirement from the world of business and law.
Among his greatest personal achievements, Dan in recent years returned to school and embraced his new career as a mental health and addiction counselor. Most recently Dan served as the Alumni Director at Cliffside, a treatment center outside Los Angeles, where he helped many people and became well-known as a leader in the recovery community.
Dan always maintained his connection to his beloved hometown, returning to Pittsburgh frequently to stay in touch with old friends. Dan particularly loved hosting annual, unforgettable Thanksgiving dinners and celebrations with his family and many friends – usually a several days event!
Dan’s smile and caring soul connected him to people, and people to him. He maintained lifelong relationships with old and new friends from all places and walks of life. To know Dan – “Danny” to most – was to love him. He lived life to the fullest – with love, style and gratitude.
A celebration of Dan’s life will take place in Pittsburgh at a later date to be announced. Contributions, if desired, may be made in Dan’s name to Cliffside Malibu, 29160 Heathercliff Road, Suite 200, Malibu, CA 90265; The University of Pittsburgh School of Law, 3900 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15260, or Shady Side Academy, 423 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA

Until we meet again, Dan, may you Rest in Peace.
