
Gordon B. Tuthill, a former executive of IBM, an exceptional husband, father and grandfather, died on Wednesday, February 26th at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica. Gordon was born in Gotham Hospital and lived in New York City until he was 8 years old. His family moved to Connecticut where his father owned a spring water company and also several real estate offices. Gordon attended St. Joseph's grammar school and New London High School where he was very popular. He began his college years at Worcester Ply Tech, and finished at University of Connecticut, where he was the Cadet Colonel of the ROTC. he joined the Army after College and served as a General's Aide in peace time Korea. he returned to the University of Connecticut to earn his MBA.
Gordon joined IBM in 1966 and moved to San Francisco. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Mary Lu, who was a systems engineer. They were married in 1968 and enjoyed a very long and happy marriage. Their 46 years together was an unusual love story for today.
Gordon was a charming, charismatic and caring person, who was also extremely funny. His delightful sense of humor was ceaselessly entertaining. Gordon radiated goodness. Everyone who met him sensed his kindness and genuine humanity. He had a sweet innocence about him. He was passionate about his family, traveling and rock 'n roll music. Gordon loved life and will always be remembered for the joys and laughter he brought to everyone's life. He will be missed by so many admirers and friends.
He is survived by his adoring wife Mary Lu, his son Brad and daughter-in-law Lynn, his daughter Kathleen, and three grandchildren. And also by his brother Bruce and Sandy Tuthill, and his sister Madge and Stephen DeSales, along with 23 nieces and nephews and 19 grand nieces and nephews; A large rowdy family who all cherished their "Uncle Gordie". Now he is with the rest of his family in heaven. Many are blessed to have known him.
The vigil will be at Gates, Kingsley & Gates at 1925 Arizona Ave in Santa Monica at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The funeral service will be held at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church at 11967 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, 90049 in Brentwood at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
