Salvador passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010 from a long term battle with a weak heart, but a strong will. He was born in Jalisco, Mexico to Jesus and Maria Aguayo. Salvador is predeceased by brother Gavino and sister Zeniada. He was survived by his wife and soul mate, Melinda Aguayo; his children Gavino Aguayo (Thelma) of UT; Monica Oleszyk (Bill) of PA.; Valarie Ochoa (Arthur) of CA.; Toni Tucker (Timothy) of UT./ CA.; Laurice West (Julius Llanillo) of CA.; Elora La Houx (CA), James Aguayo (CA) Bryan Simpson (OH), his sisters; Esperanza, Rebecca, Delores and brother Jesus. He was also survived by nineteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grand children. He was loved and admired by many more.
Salvador graduated from Bingham High School in 1945. After which he joined the United States Army 82nd Airborne division. He later spent thirty-nine years as a heavy equipment operator for Kennecott Copper Mine. After moving to California in 1984, he owned a cleaning business in Simi Valley, also retired in 1992 from the city of Simi Valley as a maintenance supervisor. In his retirement, he worked for the Santa Paula Oil Museum. However, Salvador was most proud of the time he volunteered outside of work. He was the Boy Scout leader of the Copperfield Boy Scout Troop 112 and the St. Francis Xavier Explorer Troop in Kearns, UT. He was an active member of the Sociedad Mutualista Mexicana, a Miguel Aleman member, president of the St. Francis Xavier Guadalupana Society, founder and president of the Santa Paula branch of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He volunteered for Family to Family in Ventura County making meals for the homeless, and made sandwiches weekly for Catholic Charities.
Salvador loved serving the Lord as well as giving himself to the community as evidence in his involvement in Marriage Encounter, as being leader of several prayer groups over the years, and being a leader of the men’s bible study here in Santa Paula. He was a lector and a Eucharistic minister for every church he was a member of.
From all of his volunteer activities, his efforts were recognized over the years. He humbly accepted the Silver Beaver award, the highest honor the Boy Scouts offered; he received the St. George Medal, the highest medal the Catholic Church offered for his work with the Boy Scouts; and most recently he was honored by Cardinal Roger Mahoney for his work with St. Vincent de Paul.
In his last years Salvador proudly presented the world with three children’s novels: The Tiny Detective, The Tiny Telepaths, and Home Again. The first two were published and the last will soon be submitted to the publisher for publication. These novels were only small examples of Salvador’s creativity. He created beautiful jewelry with his lapidary skills. He also built impressive pieces of furniture with wood working skills. He built and nurtured a large coy fish pond and would spend hours enjoying it. He was never bored with life.
