Amos J Borntreger

Amos J. Borntreger, 66, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully from a long battle of cancer on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Tidewell Hospice House surrounded by his family. Born in Bowling Green Missouri to Jacob Y. Borntreger and Katherine J. Borntreger (Schrock). Although he was born in Missouri he spent most of his life living in Kalona, Iowa and Sarasota, Florida.

Amos was a passionate man who loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing his faith with others. He was a lifelong learner and mentor. It was rare that he ever met a stranger, and it was largely due to his compassionate personality and warm smile. Spending time with his family was paramount. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling, reading, storytelling, and playing games. Amos was a roofing contractor by trade. He owned and operated his own company in Sarasota, Sonshine Roofing, where all of his children worked at some point throughout the years.

Amos is survived by his wife and best friend Mary K. Borntreger (Adam). He was extremely proud of his three sons and one daughter, Jeremy O. Borntreger and wife Laura of Venice Florida, Timothy J. Borntreger and wife Michele of Lakewood Ranch Florida, Nathan R. Borntreger and wife Mariana of Parrish Florida, and Krista L. King and husband Dan of Sarasota Florida. His thirteen grandchildren were his joy in life, Cody Long, Michael Borntreger, Hanna Borntreger, Jacob Borntreger, Jonathan Borntreger, Matthew Borntreger, Sophia Borntreger, Ellie Borntreger, Samuel King, Andrew King, Chloe King, Joel King, and Audrey King.

He is also survived by his two brothers, Jonas J. Borntreger and wife Marlene, Joe J. Borntreger and wife Esther, two sisters, Sarah J. Yoder and husband Anthony, Malinda K. Meeks and husband Richard, a brother-in-law Russell F. Chorpening Jr., and 5 nephews and 17 nieces.

He was predeceased by his parents Jacob Y. and Katherine J Borntreger, and 2 sisters, Lydia J. Chorpening, and Barbara J Borntreger.

The family invites family and friends to celebrate the life of Amos on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Fellowship Of Believers church, 3333 12th Street, Sarasota, Florida.
