She grew up in the Bronx and moved to New Rochelle after she married. She volunteered her time at her children’s schools, was a Girl Scout leader, and a very active member of the New Rochelle Women’s Club. She worked at the American White Cross as the payroll supervisor for twenty years.
She spent her summers on Long Island at the family summer house on Shinnecock Bay. There, she and her husband, Peter, entertained friends and family. She played canasta with friends during the week and spent most weekends riding on the boat and fishing. Most of all, she loved having her grandchildren visit.
Upon retirement, she moved to Sarasota and became a Big Sister, was a member of the Italian Club, the Catholic Women's Guild and an active member of St. Michael’s Church. In her free time she enjoyed going to festivals, plays, and accounting.
She and her husband, Peter, enjoyed traveling to many countries with their siblings, and later with their children and their spouses. She traveled the states to visit her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Carmela was a beautiful, classy, sweet, loving, kind and loyal soul. Whenever she met a stranger, they soon became friends. She had a tremendous heart and was loved by many.
Her greatest joy was her family, whom she put before herself. She was a nurturing and caring, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. She had no favorites, she found something special in everyone. She always lent an ear and gave words of encouragement and advice.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter.
She is survived by her children: Noreen Ginsberg (Barry Wolk), Peter Figari (Beth), Frances Figari (Jim Beckner); her grandchildren: Melissa Payne (Patrick), Lauren Webber (Grant), Jillian Ginsberg, Jason Figari (Ali), Steven Figari (Rachel), Elia O’Leary (Kevin), James Volosin (Kristen), Peter Volosin (Malcolm Quigley); her great grandchildren: Quinn Payne, Colton and Knox Webber, Giovanna and Amelia Figari, Finn O'Leary, Annabeth and Liam Volosin, her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Frank Figari, and many loving nieces and nephews.
