David Charles Kangas, 71, of Sarasota passed away July 2. He was born in Conneaut, Ohio, to Katherine Kangas (Sarasota) and the late Oiva M. Kangas. Dave graduated from Hoover High School, N. Canton, Ohio, and served in the US Navy. He worked for Ohio Bell before relocating to Sarasota where he co-owned Kangas & Associates with his brother Jon. Dave was past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 2495, Sarasota. Dave will be lovingly remembered for his gregarious personality, creative storytelling, adventurous cooking and that distinctive curly beard.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, mother Katherine, sons Matt (Susan) of Hastings, NY, Cy of Canton, OH, Clay of Sarasota and daughter Gayle Brannon (Joe) of Cleveland, OH; sisters Karen Diggs (Jim), Sue Snow (Walt), Kathy Harrold, and Laura Jones; brother-in-law Denny Newhouse; sister-in-law Judy Conard (Jay) and grandchildren Trevor and Sophie. He was pre-deceased by his father Oiva, brother Jon, sister Kristen Newhouse and brother-in-law Brian Harrold.
