

James Edward Lane, Sr. age 93, of Sarasota passed away on July 11, 2017. Memorial service to be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11:30 A.M. at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72. Jim grew up in Graceville, FL. After completing high school, he joined the US Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Lenore Lane in 1945 after meeting her at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. He later attended college on the GI bill. In 1962, Jim moved his family from Palatka to Sarasota where he was a school teacher, coach and administrator for over 30 years. He had 55 years of perfect attendance in the Kiwanis Club and served as Secretary for several years. He was an avid fisherman and coached Little League. He and his wife greatly enjoyed ballroom dancing. He is preceded in death by Lenore, his wife of nearly 65 years, and his infant daughter, Karen. Jim is survived by his sons Ed Lane and wife Penny (Sarasota), Rick Lane and wife Margaret (Winter Park) and daughter Donna Nave and husband Dave (Asheville); grandchildren Chris Lane, Barbara Clark, David Lane, Sara Glomski, Nikolai Nave, Jack Nave, nine great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends who remember him fondly. Memorial donations may be made to the Pines of Sarasota.
