Melvin F. "Mel" Sommers, 78, of Sarasota, FL formerly of Hartville, OH, died on May 13, 2016. Mel was born on March 6, 1938 in Greentown, OH. He was a brick and stone mason and retired as a Sarasota County school bus driver after 20 years. He was a member of Bayshore Mennonite Church. Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ada (Coblentz) Sommers and two brothers, Ray and Nelson Sommers. Mel is survived by his wife, Shirley (Miller) Sommers; three daughters, Tami (Marlin) Kurtz, Brenda (Jon) Gould and Lori (Manuel) Aguilar, all of Sarasota; two sisters, Mary Ann Sommers and Edna (Alfred) Raber both of Hartville; and eight grandchildren, Garrett and Hailee Kurtz; Austin, Jordan "JJ" and Selby Gould and Manny and Isabella Aguilar and Bailey Peachy. Visitation will be held Monday, May 16, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bayshore Mennonite Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Bayshore Mennonite Church.
