Naomi Trueblood Blick, age 95, passed away in Glendridge on February 9, 2017. She was born in Portsmouth, Va., the final child and only girl in a family that included five beloved brothers. Her life involved significant accomplishments, numerous friends and a great sense of humor. As a young widow and mother of two children, she joined the Federal government in Washington, D.C. as a typist and worked her way up to leadership positions. She worked for President Lyndon Johnson on special projects related to the War on Poverty, and she was the Administrative Official for Volunteers in Service to America. Under Vice President Hubert Humphrey she was also involved at the federal level with national women’s organizations and councils to develop support for environmental anti-pollution standards. She was recognized in “Who’s Who of American Women” and in “International Who’s Who in Community Service.” Her wisdom, sense of humor, and her loving nature are things her children and grandchildren found most endearing and enduring about her. She was an excellent cook, a gracious hostess and a world traveler. She also enjoyed playing golf and bridge and going on cruises. She met her husband, Milton, in junior high school, and again following World War II when he recognized her in a friend’s office and took her for a cup of coffee at the Hot Shoppe. They were married in New York City on St. Patrick’s Day 1949. They loved doing things together and traveled extensively into their 90s. They moved from Washington, D.C. to Sarasota in 1980. Naomi is survived by her husband Milton, children James Blick and Carol, seven grandchildren, 16 great-children, and numerous extended family members. Naomi’s graciousness, humor, interest in the world around her and love of family served as a role model for her family and friends who will greatly miss this one-of-a-kind woman. A memorial Service will be held at The Glenridge in Sarasota Florida, 2-4 PM on Friday February 17, 2017. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Glenridge Benevolent Fund, 7333 Scotland Way, Sarasota, Florida. Online condolences can be offered at www.wiegandbrothers.com
