

He graduated from Florida State University and then served in the United States Army. He returned to attend University of Kentucky Law School and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 1972. He began his legal career at Ashland Oil Company in Ashland, Kentucky. He next became Legal Counsel for Chi Chi’s Mexican Restaurants in Louisville, Kentucky. After Chi Chi’s was acquired by Foodmaker, Dick worked for the law firm of Hirn, Reed, Harper and Eisinger in Louisville.
He next worked for Chi Chi’s International in Brussels, Belgium and retired back to the United States; later moving to Sarasota, Florida to enjoy training for Ironman events. He completed Ironman events in Florida, Brazil, Germany and Arizona.
Dick volunteered at Resurrection House, a shelter for the homeless, for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Jane, of 34 years, brother Robert Sanks of Athens, Georgia and niece Lisa (Steve) Brown of Houston, Texas.

Services will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 11:30 am at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd. 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
