
Robert (“Bob”) Spier of Sarasota FL, formerly of East Aurora, died peacefully on February 26 at the age of 94. Bob was born January 26,1922 in Queens, NY to Samuel and Pauline Spier. He was preceded in death by Nina (Hodgson) Spier, his wife of over fifty years, and his sister Millie Biedenkapp. Bob is survived by his four children and their families, Robert and Fabienne Spier, (Washington, DC), their son Roland; Rosemary and Hollis French, (Wenham, MA), their daughters Emily, Louisa and Katharine; David and Merritt Spier, (Wexford, PA), Thomas Spier and Dinkinesh Getachew (Washington, DC) and their son Yohannes (“Jack”). Bob is also survived by his long-time companion Mary Chipman, (Osprey, FL). A World War II Army veteran, Bob received his AB from the University of Wisconsin, and his MD from the University of Pennsylvania. He served his residency at The New York Hospital where he was Chief Resident in Surgery. He devoted his entire career as a general surgeon to serving the hospitals in the Buffalo area. An avid tennis player and golfer, Bob also enjoyed skiing, sailing, traveling, furniture making and a good challenging game of bridge.
