

William John Hoffman 1931-2017 William John “Bill” Hoffman, 85 of Sarasota, Florida, faithful husband to Joan Irene Hoffman, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017. Born in Detroit, MI on October 27, 1931, son of the late Theodore and Helen Hoffman. Bill grew up in Detroit and attended the University of Detroit, Jesuit High School. Upon graduation, he served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. Afterdischarge, he completed his undergraduate studies at Wayne State University and married Joan Irene Bertani, his wife of 62 years. Later in life he earned his MBA from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. He worked for Avery Dennison for most of his career, including seven years in Toronto, Canada developing international businesses in Japan, Mexico and South America. The family then moved to Mentor, OH where they lived for the next 20 years. He retired in 1997 and moved to his beloved Sarasota, FL with his wife Joan. They enjoyed spending time golfing, fishing and being with their community of friends at Stonybrook Golf and Country Club. Bill was well known for his wit, story telling and most of all the love of his family. His children will always remember warmly his many endearing traits including exotic cuisine, fine wine, and his fondness for animals. An avid reader, a good book was never far from his side. He is survived by his wife Joan Hoffman. He was a devoted father and leaves behind his daughter Joan Lee Alger and husband Robert of Avon, CT, his daughter Theresa Markko and husband Matt of Rowlett, TX, his son John Hoffman and wife Doris of Mentor, OH, his son Robert Hoffman and wife Neal of Canton, CT and son Theodore Hoffman and wife Laura of Avon, CT. He leaves behind many loving grandchildren including Robert and Lauren Alger, Tiffany Markko, Dana and Kevin Garred, Mitchell and Rieley Hoffman and Teddy and Alexis Hoffman. He is predeceased by his sister Nadine Hill and brothers Theodore and Charles Hoffman. His sister Peggy Felice and husband Edward continue to live in Rochester Hills, MI. His family will welcome friends Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 9:30 am Mass at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2506 Gulf Gate Drive, Sarasota, FL.
