P.G.A. of Canada Class "A" Head Professional
Wildwood Golf Course, Saskatoon
Abe passed peacefully after valiant attempts to kick cancer in the butt.
He was the beloved son of William and Isabel Buckle, who pre-deceased him. Loving brother of Linda English (Philip), Rosemarie D'Amico (Darryl), and Roxanne Buckle. He was Uncle Abe to his nieces and nephews Roxanne D'Amico, Alexandra English, Kate D'Amico, Naomi English, William Felepchuk, Jordan D'Amico, and Erin Felepchuk. Abe is also survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Abe was a gifted athlete excelling in a variety of sports, though golf became his lifelong love when he was introduced to the game at the age of 13. Abe became a Class "A" Head Professional at 21 and has since devoted his life to the game. His best times were spent instructing golfers, bringing more juniors and women to the game, and creating and devising the best tournaments for members at the many clubs where he served for the past 45 years. Abe was fortunate to spend his entire career doing something he was passionate about.
Abe's sisters want to express their deepest gratitude to cousin Jim Buckle, his wife Cathy, and cousins Cathy Buckle, Brenda Shewchuk and Brittany Grady for their positive thoughts and actions on Abe's behalf in the last weeks of his life.
Thank you to the staff at Wildwood Golf Course and the City of Saskatoon staff for stepping up and going over and above to keep the golf course running smoothly as Abe would have loved and appreciated.
The family acknowledges and thanks the incredible staff at St. Paul’s Palliative Care Unit for their deeply attentive and dignified care during Abe’s last days.
A celebration of Abe's life will be held at the end of the golf season with details shared at that time.
