With much sadness, the family of Albert Douglas Sargent announce his passing at his home on Sunday, January 9, at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Myra (Crozier) and dear father of Rick (Patricia), Corrine (Charles Poitras), Brian (Shelley) and Kathryn (Jeff O’Brien) and much loved grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandsons, he is also survived by his sister Jean Sargent and was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Lillian (Smyth), his brother Charlie and his eldest son, Douglas Jr.
Doug, as he was always known by, was born in Detroit, Michigan on the 29th of May 1927 and moved with his parents to the Brandon, Manitoba area where he met and married Myra; the love of his life on the 26th of February, 1949. That very day, Doug and Myra moved to Medicine Hat where he managed a branch office of Hutton’s Ltd., eventually moving to Saskatoon where he established and built his own successful business, Sargent’s Auto Electric.
Doug was an avid hunter, fisher and snowmobiler and enjoyed many quiet days at their cabin at Wakaw Lake. Along with Myra, he toured many places around the world and eventually bought a home in Palm Desert, California where they spent the winters pursuing their much loved pastime of golfing. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club and served terms as president of the Executive Club of Saskatoon and the CAEA of Canada.
He will be missed by his loyal employees, business associates and friends, but mostly by his family who will dearly miss his wry sense of humour, keen mind and boundless generosity.
The Celebration of Doug’s Life will be on Friday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Acadia McKague Funeral Centre (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, SK) conducted by Rev. Jack Carr. Inurnment of Doug’s cremated remains will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to David Grambo of Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre (306)955-1600.
