

It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Alex Nalywayko at Sunnyside Nursing Home on March 27th, 2016 at the age of 92. Alex will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Kay (nee Michayluk); daughters Dianne (Kevin) McDuffie, Nadia (Joel) Hodorek; grandson Zachary Lesko; and sister, Stella Holinaty. Alex was predeceased by his parents, Phillip and Tekla Nalywayko, two brothers and four sisters. Alex was born on November 11, 1923 in St. Julien District, SK. After a brief period living and working in Toronto (where he came to enjoy driving his Indian Motorcycle), Alex returned to Saskatchewan to care for the family farm. It was there that he met his future wife. While continuing to farm, Alex and Kay moved to Central Avenue in Saskatoon in 1959 where Alex also worked as a mechanic and truck driver until his retirement. In 2010, Alex moved into St Volodymyr’s Villa. After a brief illness forced Alex into long term care, Alex became a resident of Sunnyside last fall before his passing earlier this week. The Prayer Service will be held at St. Volodymyr Villa Chapel (3102 Louise Place, Saskatoon) on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 7:00pm with Rev. Fr. Vladimir Mudri officiating. The Funeral Service will be held at Ukrainian Catholic Parish of the Dormition of the Blessed Mother of God (120 – 105th Street West, Saskatoon) Friday, April 1, 2016 at 10:30am with Rev. Fr. Andre Lalach officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre (306.955.1600).In lieu of flowers the family requests you make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan (279-3 Ave N, Saskatoon, SK).
