Our beloved father, Alvin Darrel Lawrence Bishop, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the age of 68. Though his passing leaves a deep void, Alvin’s legacy of kindness, humor, and boundless imagination will continue to guide and inspire us. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barb, his soulmate and lifelong companion, with whom he built a life of 42 years full of laughter, love, and adventure, sharing their lives together for 45 years.
Born on August 17, 1956, in Meadow Lake, SK, Alvin was a man of infinite curiosity and joy. He was a storyteller at heart, finding magic in everyday moments and sharing that wonder with his family. Whether taking his kids to explore different parks, playing games, or spinning tales of UFOs, ghosts, and adventures, Alvin filled our childhood with laughter, mystery, and unforgettable memories. Even with modest means, he created endless moments of joy, always finding ways to keep us entertained and showing us the beauty in life’s small pleasures.
Alvin loved music and played the guitar in his younger years. His life with Barb, rooted in love and companionship, was a testament to their strong bond. Before having children, they traveled to places like Banff, and after settling down, they enjoyed simple joys together—grocery shopping, playing bingo, and taking occasional trips to the casino. Rarely apart, Alvin was not only a devoted husband but also a dedicated father who filled our days with laughter, pranks, and the comfort of his steady presence.
He leaves behind his loving children, Adrienne (Brett) Fisher, Laura (Aaron) Doell, Adam (Tara) Bishop, Jennifer Bishop, Heather (Ryan) Mowbray, Katherine Bishop, and Derek (Lindsay) Bishop; his siblings Dennis, Tom, Brenda, Joseph, Norbert, Shirley, and Priscilla; and eleven treasured grandchildren who brought him immense joy. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Joseph Bishop, and his sister, Leah Edwards.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Mourning Glory Funeral Home in Saskatoon, SK, for their compassion in arranging a private family viewing. In honor of Alvin’s remarkable life, a gathering will be held at a later date among those closest to him to share memories and celebrate his incredible spirit. We will remember Alvin by living with the same joy, kindness, and curiosity that he brought to every moment.
