

Annie of Saskatoon, passed away on April 27, 2015 at St. Ann's Home in Saskatoon. Annie was born to Henry and Annie Gurke on a farm in rural Jansen, SK on February 5, 1927. She was predeceased by her husband Samuel in 1982; parents Henry and Annie Gurke; brothers Alfred (Bertha) and Arthur; brother-in-law Arnold Kautz. She is survived by sisters Ludema (Alvin) Kuechle and Olga Kautz; sister-in-law Alme Gurke; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Annie attended Illinois rural school between Jansen and Leroy. She worked on the family farm helping with all aspects of the farm including work inside and all aspects of chores and gardening. She lived in a community in which there were great neighbours for visitations and cooperation. In the long winter months they would get together for a good game of cards, quilting and other social activities. Her hobbies were crocheting, embroidery and sewing and she produced many pieces of artistic beauty. On December 4, 1958 Annie married Sam Block in Saskatoon. They farmed in an area between Jansen and Leroy, the farm today is part of the development of the Jansen BHP potash mine. They farmed until 1966 when they moved to Saskatoon in semi-retirement. Later she became a cook at Sherbrooke Nursing Home where she worked for about 18 years. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2nd at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (1215 McKercher Dr, Saskatoon) with Pastor Harley Johnson presiding. The Interment will follow at Esk Baptist Cemetery, Saturday at 2:30 p.m. We wish to thank the staff at St. Ann's Home for the loving care they provided for her.
