It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barry Douglas Wilde, who passed away peacefully on February 6 with family by his side. He endured a very long and courageous battle with IPF and was currently awaiting a lung transplant that sadly never came.
Barry is survived by his devoted wife Donna; his sons Brett (Amanda) and Steven (Joanna); his brother Dale (Edna); and his sister Shawna; as well as many nieces and nephews and great friends. He was the proudest and most deeply loving grandfather of four and his young grandchildren became a bright new light in his life. He was grateful to have had the chance to show them just how much they were loved. Barry was predeceased by his parents Doug and Shirley Wilde and his “best boy” Cooper.
Barry spent many of his years as an elementary school teacher, a role in which he found great purpose and pride. He was beloved by countless students whose lives he touched with his patience, kindness, and steady encouragement.
Barry had a deep love of sports, especially football, which he shared with his son Brett. Watching games together every Sunday, without fail, became a treasured tradition and a source of many happy memories.
He had a lifelong passion for music, a gift he proudly passed on to his son Steven. It was a special bond between them from the very beginning and remained a meaningful connection throughout their lives.
Above all else, Barry was happiest with Donna by his side, whether they were travelling to new countries together or simply floating in the pool in their backyard, enjoying the quiet moments that meant the most.
Known for his ability to fix just about anything—and for always being right (at least in his own mind), Barry was a steady presence for his family, someone they could always count on for help, advice and usually a great solution.
Barry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his kindness, humour, devotion to his family, and the many lives he touched will ensure he is never forgotten.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Royal University Hospital for their knowledge, care and compassion in Barry’s final months. A special thank you to Dr. Tam, Karen, Gilda and the lung transplant team in Edmonton for the years of care and encouragement while waiting for transplant.
A celebration of life will be held in the coming months for close family and friends.
Those wishing to honour his memory are invited to make donations to Lung Saskatchewan or the Regina Humane Society.
