Beatrice or Bea as she was known to all, and her twin brother Bernard was born to John and Bridget Mager in Lake Lenore Sask on June 12 1922, the sixth of six children. She and her siblings grew up during the 30’s. Unfortunately there are no photos of Bea and her siblings as they were growing up.
Bea left Lake Lenore in her late twenties and moved to Saskatoon, where she went to work for Sasktel as an operator. She met Clarence (Bus) Brown during the late forties. They were married on August 15th 1956. Bea worked at Sasktel until 1961, when their son Kirk was born. Bea quit her job with Sasktel to be a stay at home mom to Kirk and to Brent, an infant boy, whom she and Bus adopted in 1964.
Family was always important to Bea and there was lots of time spent in the company of her sister Pat and her family, along with her other brothers and sisters, Archie Vena, Chris And Bernard and their families, nieces and nephews such as Ken Hergott and his wife Alice, Bea’s god Daughter and Niece Michelle Pasker and her husband Jim Katchuck, seen here with Kirk in 2008. Mary and Paul Lang from Calgary, and Bob Hergott from Prince Albert also stayed in contact, along with many of the other nieces and nephews, to many to list here.
In June of 1969, Bea and her family lost Brent to leukemia, and though it took it’s toll, things returned to normal, (whatever that might be) and the other three carried on. Bea went back to work in 1972 for TAS, an answering service in downtown Saskatoon. She changed jobs a few times and finally found herself on the switchboard at the U of S hospital, where she stayed until 1983 when she retired permanently, after her 61st birthday.
She and Bus traveled some, pursued various interests, and argued incessantly!!! But whatever the problem it always worked itself out and the two lived together until May of 2002 when Bus succumbed to cancer. Bea was at his side when he passed away.
Bea lived another eight years. She passed away in the early hours of June 17th 2010, five days after her 88th Birthday.
