Tragically and suddenly, Brandon passed way in The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the James Patterson Hospital at the tender age of 14. He leaves to celebrate his life, his loving mother Chantelle Schafer and little brother Leslie, his grandparents - Jerry and Cathie Pocha, his uncles, Chris Schafer, Kurtis Schafer (Tina) and their son Emmett, and his great- aunties, Kelly Harrington and Lori Lemieux (Darin) and family. He also leaves to cherish his memory his father, Lloyd Kovacs and half-brothers Hunter and Wyatt, his grandmother - Terry Fast, his uncle - Jeff Kovacs, his great grandparents – Jim and Joan Fast as well as many other extended family members, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and doctors from PICU that tried so hard to save him. You are angels on earth for the work you do and we know Brandon received the absolute best of care and that you worked tirelessly to change this outcome.
Brandon had a great vocabulary and loved searching for new information and discovering new things. He would be quick to share with you his random ‘trivia’ and we were always surprised that he knew far more than he ever let on. He was always trying to make people feel good about themselves and he was a charmer. He often told his Grandma, mom and Aunties how beautiful they looked whenever he would see them…and he was sincere. Brandon had a wonderful sense of humour and loved playing his little tricks. Long after Brandon would leave the room, you would discover one of his surprises. He loved to make people laugh and he smiled with his whole face when he was able to catch you off guard with one of his special surprises. One of Brandon’s favorite ways to spend a summer afternoon was in his Aunties’ backyard pool with a family BBQ or picnic to follow a swim. He was his Grandpa Jerry’s ‘little buddy’ and that relationship was special beyond words. They had a connection that will last into eternity.
Although we cannot understand how this could happen, we are going to do our best to remember all the joy and laughter Brandon brought to our lives. He was one of a kind and he was loved for everything and every part of his being. He was so proud to be a big brother to Leslie and to welcome his first cousin Emmett into this world. He loved his mom so much and his entire face lit up when she entered the room. We know Brandon spirit is still with us and he always will be.
We will miss Brandon dearly but trust he is in a better place and he will only experience love, joy and happiness from now on. Brandon will live forever in our hearts and his soul will fly high above this earth with all our family angels who were waiting with open arms to greet him. Rest easy our little guy as your work here on earth is done. You are safe in the arms of the angels.
A private Celebration of Life Service will be held in the New Year.
