Charlotte Olson

March 29, 1925 - March 23, 2016

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Charlotte Olson, at Saskatoon City Hospital, at the age of 90. Charlotte was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose first priority was always family. She was a skilled cook and mealtime had a special place in the household. Charlotte took great pleasure being with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Her great-grandchild and namesake, Hailey Charlotte, was a source of great joy in her life. Charlotte was also a widely recognized professional and career woman who came to Saskatoon in 1954 and established the first Department of Dietetics at University Hospital. She was a founding member of the Saskatchewan Dietitians Association. In her retirement years, Charlotte became an avid and accomplished quilter. Throughout her life, her Christian faith was a great source of strength and comfort. Charlotte is survived by daughters Karen (Jack) van Dyke and Susan (Guy) Keeler; grandchildren Brett (Catlin), Michael, Jessica, and Bryce; and great-granddaughter Hailey Charlotte; brothers-in-law Gerald (Joan), Gerald (Flora), Kenneth (Jean), Gordon (Donna); sister-in-law Lillian; and numerous nieces and nephews. Charlotte was predeceased by her husband and partner of fifty seven years Percy; parents Lucy (Snowden) and Thomas; sisters Sue (William) Taylor and Betty Fletcher; brother Jack Paxton; sisters-in-law Margaret, Pearl, Phyllis (Elmer); brothers-in-law Harold, Earl (Jean), Melvin, Keith (Betty), and Orville. Charlotte’s family would like to thank the staff at Luther Riverside Terrace for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Luther Care Communities c/o Luther Care Foundation (1212 Osler St, Saskatoon, S7N 0T9) or to a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Charlotte’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2nd at Zion Lutheran Church (323 - 4th Ave South).
