It is with sadness that we announce that Christina McKay passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital on June 21, 2025. Christina was born in Lloydminster, SK to Alexander McKay and Annie (nee) Formo. She was the fifth born in a family of eight children. She grew up in the Marshall area and started working outside the home for some of the neighbouring farms when she was 14.
Christina worked a variety of jobs before becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant, which she truly enjoyed. She endured two marriages before finding her freedom in Saskatoon. Her fierce independence gave her the strength to raise four children as a single mother.
Of the many things she did in her life, her biggest pride was in her role as mother, and later as a grandmother to 11 wonderful grandchildren. She valued time with family and ensured everyone was very well fed at family gatherings. Her stellar roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and Waldorf salad were often requested dishes for our get-togethers.
In 2023 when her health began to decline, she found it necessary to give up her apartment and move into assisted living. She moved over to Graceful Living in the spring of 2024, where she quickly settled in and got on well with everyone in the home, and she remained there until her passing.
Christina was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Don McKay, Tony McKay, Kenneth McKay, sisters-in-law Myra McKay and Marlene McKay, and nephew Randy McKay.
She is survived by her daughter Lora (Bill) Cameron and their children Steven, Sara (Zac), Jason; daughter Lana Johnson and her daughter Tori (Kalen); daughter Joanne (Sean) McKay and their children Jeff (Ashley), Taylor, Alexander (Liv), Lucas; and son Christopher (Cathy) McKay and their children Benjamin, Cailyn, Alina. Also surviving are her brothers Gordon (Evelyn) McKay, Alec McKay, Gary (Carol) McKay, sister Eva (Jim) Meville, and sister-in-law Maureen McKay, and their families.
The family would like to extend much gratitude to Joyce, Julie and Alex at Graceful Living, and the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital Palliative Care unit for looking after Mom with such gentle care and dignity.
As was Christina’s wishes, there is no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to either Lung Saskatchewan or the Alzheimer's Society of Saskatchewan would be welcomed.
