June 24th 1947 to June 24th 2015
David Marshall Christensen passed away on June 24th, 2015 at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon, SK, after a long and courageous struggle with Huntington’s disease. He was born in Saskatoon, the only child of Henry (Chris) and Bethyl Christensen who both predeceased him. Dave attended Saskatoon Technical Collegiate and went on to Kelsey Institute where he took carpentry and obtained his journeyman status and inter-provincial certificate. He worked for Smith Brothers and Wilson Contractors as a labourer during high school and later on as a carpenter prior to being employed as a building inspector for the City of Saskatoon. His final position was Sr. Building Inspector until his early retirement in 1996. Sports were always a big part of Dave’s life. He was a runner, swimmer, and badminton player but his biggest love was soccer. Dave was a member of the Saskatoon United Soccer Club and played both forward and goal for them. As well, he loved the outdoors especially the time he spent at Tobin and Deschambault Lake's fishing and working on the cabin. Dave was always ready to lend a hand to friends and family. He loved to entertain and each time he would try to do something special to create memories like Easter egg hunts or fireworks. He believed that you don’t know if you can do something unless you try and he encouraged others to do their best and never give up. Dave will live on in the hearts of those surviving him: his wife Helen; daughter Michele; son Brian; grandchildren Jo-Ann (John), Brandon (Michelle), Patrick, Nicholas and Marshal; great-grandson Ethan; his aunts Doris Jones and Berneice Chalmers; sister-in-law Marg (Al) Lovas; brothers-in-law George (Katherine) Tennent; Cam (Cheryle) Tennent; Dave (Marie) Tennent; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and his adopted family - the Lester Clan. We would like to say thank you to the 4th floor staff at Sherbrooke Community Centre for taking such good care of Dave and keeping the twinkle alive in his eyes and a special heartfelt thanks to Dr. Johann Kriegler who cared for Dave during his long journey, with compassion, guidance and friendship. A Celebration of David's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 7th in the Chapel at Sherbrooke Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Huntington’s Society, Sherbrooke Community Centre or a charity of your choice.
