Dennis Wesley McMahon

August 22, 1935 – October 28, 2014

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of the centre of our family, Dennis McMahon.  Brother, Uncle, Dad, Husband, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa, Dennis was greatly loved and admired and will be sorely missed.  Born in Saskatoon, Dennis lived in Perdue and his family moved to Saskatoon when he was eight.  His father passed away in 1947, when Dennis was 11 and he struggled to help support his family and continue his studies.  Dennis met Marge (nee Samoleski) and the two were happily married for 58 years and blessed with six children. He was a hard worker and a good provider, working as an insurance adjuster for 56 years. He was an avid reader and often had 2 or 3 books on the go.  He loved to hunt and fish and insisted the family eat his catch.  VE5KR was his Amateur Ham Radio call name. The family community of Holy Family Parish and his faith in God were central in his life.  He started each day with bible reading and prayers.  Dennis was predeceased by his father, John; his sister, Claire and his mother, Pearl.  He is survived by his wife, Marge; children, Alison (Marv) Deck, Karen (Michael) Carter, Janine (Terry) Tosh, Josie (Brian) Hodgkinson, Terese (Rob) Kormish and John McMahon; 22 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Jordan (Darlene) McMahon; sister, Lynda (Bob) McKay and many nieces, nephews and in-laws who all loved Dennis dearly.  We celebrate with joy and peace that Dennis is now in heaven with his Lord and Savior.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dennis’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (279 - 3rd Ave N. Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8) or to a charity of your choice.  The Vigil for Dennis will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31st. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1st.  Both services will be held from the Cathedral of The Holy Family (123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon).
