With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Don at the age of 74 after a brief illness with a very fast-growing brain tumor. Don passed peacefully surrounded by his wife Kathy, immediate family and a few close friends.
Don was a strong man who overcame much adversity in his life. He was very close to his mother and his older brother, who both passed away by the time he was 33. He was a gentle man and a true gentleman. He sometimes presented a gruff demeanor, but he had a heart of gold and was Kathy’s big “teddy bear”. Don was kind and generous despite being a very private man. He had a dry sense of humor but loved to tease those he was close to.
Don was born in Toronto but spent most of his childhood in Quebec. He started his career at Dun & Bradstreet, leading to Credit Manager positions in Winnipeg, B.C. and Quebec. Don and his first wife, Doreen Graff, moved to Saskatoon to open a Direct Buy franchise. They devoted all their energies to this successful business and their employees became their family, with many close friendships among other Direct Buy franchise owners. Unfortunately, Don lost Doreen and the business the same year.
Don met Kathy in 2015 walking their dogs Tyler and Molly at the dog park. This strong friendship led to marriage in Sept. 2020. Don was able to make his dream of becoming a Catholic come true. He embraced the Church and he was very active, doing Readings, Gifts, Bible studies, etc. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Don and Kathy were inseparable and enjoyed camping, road trips, cruises, a trip to Vegas, etc. Between the travelling, Don found the time to transform Kathy’s weed patch to a beautiful, grassed yard. Together they adopted a new fur baby Skyler, who misses Don very much.
Don was pre-deceased by his parents Wilfred and Shirley, his brother Rob and his first wife Doreen. He is survived by his beloved wife Kathy, stepdaughters Trudy (David) and Carrie, step-grandchildren Justin and Sarah and his sister-in-law Debbie (Jim Morrison) and their family.
